Self-proclaimed underground troubadour Arnaud Bukwald, a native of France, is certainly one of the more unique creative forces to enter the prog sphere in the 21st century. With a whimsical, unpredictable approach to composing music, Bukwald's output is every bit as eccentric as it is eclectic. After the world music-oriented Moondragore - ethnic collection, Bukwald's prog career began with the 2011 album bizarremporium. A humorous, almost vaudevillian work, bizarremporium marked the beginning of Bukwald's signature style, mixing jazz and psychedelic rock in a soundtrack-like context. Over the years, Bukwald's music shifted away from its jazz-heavy roots and began to explore psychedelic influences to a greater extent. Although his later output, such as 2016's la marmite cosmique trilogy, puts less emphasis on jazz than on his earlier works, fusion elements are still to be heard, in addition to space rock, electronic, and even symphonic-style keyboard work. For those who like their prog whimsical, Arnaud Bukwald's strange catalogue should offer plenty of amusement - and perhaps even bemusement.

If you thought that musical geniuses did not exist, it's because you didn't listen to this guy. Brilliantly colorful and amazing music. There is some real and rare genius happening here. Exciting and often witty compositions creating an amazing adventure.
Refreshingly eclectic (and quirky) approach to jazz. France's ARNAUD BUKWALD has worked and reworked his beloved songs on this year's release, "La marmite cosmique" with such love and attention that the collection is a veritable feast of all that is great about the 1960s/70s prog scene in Europe.
Arnaud's four "La marmite cosmique" releases of the past few years are all highly worth your while. He has quite an eclectic reverence for prog-of-old while possessing an astonishing gift for creating, on his own, music that could have come from those days without ever sounding stale or too imitative; his compositions are very creative, original, highly skilled and often quite humorous--definitely leaning the Canterbury way.

It's all done masterfully - at some point you even forget that everything was not only composed and arranged, but also performed, recorded and produced by one single person. A real professional, who approaches the matter seriously and thoroughly, but at the same time with a bit of post-modern sarcasm and irony, which a sophisticated listener simply cannot not feel and not notice.
2020 has been a great year for new music and this album really shines in its maximalist approach. Arnaud combines progressive rock, jazz, and classical music in this powerful track ("contes lunaires"). A movie for the ears, as Frank would say.
Wow! Arnaud has done it again! How can one man be such a genius at synthesizing such a wide range of eclectic prog sounds in such a creative, masterful way! He's given us a brilliant big-band jazz sound to the most beautiful that the Canterbury Scene ever had to offer as well as a 1960s version of some OLD Pink Floyd psychedelia! Amazing! Brilliant! Mesmerizing! And full of so many clever, witty subtleties! Get this album! You won't be sorry!

Every song shows a deep love and respect for the progressive works of yesteryear, and prog fans are sure to be smitten the whole time they are listening. The final track is an artistic masterpiece that introduces enigmatic mellotron music and Eldon-esque electronics, demonstrating the artistry of the French musician. Still, this is a considerable talent, both in arrangement and performance!
It is truly admirable that an artist inspired and edited the stitching of ideas in a special and so personal way. This is not a typical case of one-man band. There is vision, depth, generosity, and productive “insanity” that is embodied with exemplary seriousness.

"Children of the full moon", c'est du Gong. Bluffant, j'ai l'impression d'entendre un inédit de 73.

"Children of the full moon", it's Gong. Impressive, I feel like I'm listening to an unreleased song from 73.
